Downtown Charm

Unique, historic buildings nestled along a babbling creek make downtown Kemptville the perfect retreat.

Visit a variety of unique shops, including Willow & Rose for custom home décor. Their one-of-a-kind creations are perfect for making your house feel like more of a home. Stop by Healthy Pets to grab a treat for your fur baby. They have a full range of food, toys, and even decorative treats for your furry friend. Or grab a book from one of the local book shops including Book Market Kemptville and MM Books.

You’ll need to make several trips to taste all of the delicious offerings in the downtown core. Start your day with a juice or java from Geronimo, then grab lunch on Salamanders' patio where the only thing more mouthwatering is the food. Or grab a slice from Mr. Mozzarella and head to a scenic spot to chow down.

Between the waterfront and the historic buildings, there is plenty to look at. Kemptville began on Clothier Street east. It was along this street that the early village developed, where hotels and service industries such as blacksmiths, general stores and the post office were located. The street parallels the river, the focus and reason for the village from the beginning in the 1820’s. The current site of Grahame’s Bakery was constructed in 1820, and first became a bakery since 1855, still using the same wood-fired brick oven. Another important place is 126 Prescott Street. In 1868 it was the site of a harness and saddlery business. The building was destroyed in the 1872 fire. After it was rebuilt, it has housed a jewelry store, an ice cream shop, bakery, and most recently Butler’s Victorian Pantry. Besides ogling the gorgeous buildings, you can sit along the water, or visit one of the nearby green areas and parks.
