North Grenville is a growing municipality located in eastern Ontario housing a unique blend of small town and rural culture. Comprised of an urban centre (Kemptville) and surrounded by several charming rural hamlets, North Grenville is situated between Canada’s National Capital – Ottawa and the St. Lawrence River, only a 30-minute drive along the Veterans Memorial Highway (416), to either destination. Alternatively, for a more leisure journey, North Grenville offers the historic Rideau River managed by Parks Canada.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Overall Responsible Operator (ORO), the Water Wastewater Operator conducts and assists in the coordination of regular operations and maintenance of the water and wastewater systems in compliance with all legislative requirements.
The position will perform all tasks related to the operations of water and wastewater systems as assigned by the Overall Responsible Operator or Lead Operator.
• Perform emergency repairs, including working with contractors, as required to the water distribution and wastewater collection systems and the water and wastewater treatment facilities
• Operate any equipment and machinery to perform the above duties (not including contracted services)
• Work in conjunction with work crews, scheduling and reporting as required by the Overall Responsible Operator
• Assist with the monitoring and implementation of water and sewer capital projects
• Ensure proper use of equipment and compliance with safety regulations and required training
• Immediately advise the Overall Responsible Operator, the Director of Public Works, and all other required persons and authorities in the event of any health-related or unsafe condition arising out of the water and wastewater operations
• Inspect and advise on water and sewer infrastructure and connections to the system(s) as required
• Read water meters and record consumptions
• Identify water meter equipment problems and coordinate with other technical personnel to resolve problems
• Successfully participate in training and other educational and skills certification processes required to continually meet legislative requirements
• Be capable of performing essential physical requirements of the position
Qualifications:
Essential (minimum) Qualifications:
• Secondary school graduation diploma.
• Must be willing and able to obtain valid Operator in Training (OIT’s) Certificates within six (6) months of hire
• Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain Class III Wastewater Treatment certificate, Class I Water Treatment certificate, Class I Wastewater Collection certificate and Class I Water Distribution certificate within a designated period of time
• Valid “G” license with clean driver’s abstract
• Physically fit to perform the essential duties of the job in an indoor and outdoor setting, including working in inclement weather.
Asset (preferred) Qualifications:
• Possess valid Class III Wastewater Treatment certificate, Class I Water Treatment certificate, Class I Wastewater Collection certificate and Class I Water Distribution certificate
Work Experience:
Essential (minimum) Qualifications:
• Six (6) months or more demonstrated experience in the operations of publicly owned water and wastewater systems
OR
• Two (2) years or more demonstrated experience in at least one of the following fields: electrical, millwright, HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems
Asset (preferred) Qualifications:
• Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems
• Basic understanding of the operation of publicly owned water and wastewater systems
• Thorough working knowledge of the Ontario Safe Drinking Water Act, Ontario Water Resources Act and associated regulations
• Demonstrated leadership/ability to take initiative
• Computer literacy using word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software
• Superior customer service, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Demonstrated knowledge and training in workplace health and safety and WHMIS
• Demonstrated ability to work independently
Compensation:
The salary range for this position is Level 5, $31.65/hour to $39.56/hour based on a forty (40) hour workweek. The position includes pension and benefits. The position includes after hours, evenings and/or weekends and on-call shifts as necessary.
