An Official Plan is a land use planning document that sets a long-term vision for how land should be developed, used, and managed over time. North Grenville’s current Official Plan was adopted in May 2018, and is now out of date. Per Ontario’s Planning Act, Official Plans must be reviewed and updated regularly.

Why are we reviewing our Official Plan? The purpose of the review of the Official Plan is to update the policies to conform to planning legislation and policies from the Province of Ontario, the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, government agencies and members of the public. It is intended to reflect a vision for development out to 2051.

The new Official Plan will address recent Provincial policy directions and incorporate direction from current documents such as the Provincial Planning Statement, 2024 and the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville Official Plan.

The new Official Plan will focus on establishing objectives and policies to guide the social, economic, and environmental shape of North Grenville, through three key themes of Live, Work, and Play. The review will examine topics such as:

• Creating a vision for how to create a vibrant and growing Municipality to 2051 and beyond,
• Determining where new housing, jobs and industry will be located,
• Addressing housing affordability and intensification targets to meet current and projected population needs,
• How to best plan for services the community needs like roads, sewers, schools and parks,
• Protecting and enhancing natural areas and green space,
• Planning for jobs and economic vitality,
• Incorporating environmental sustainability and planning for climate change impacts,
• Promoting active transportation,
• Establishing community improvement initiatives, and,
• Conforming Municipal policies to Provincial and regional policies.

The purpose of this open house is to provide members of the public with an opportunity to review the draft of the new Official Plan and provide comments prior to the final Official Plan being brought forward later in 2026. At the public open house, the draft Official Plan revisions and proposed revised schedules (maps) will be available for review. Staff from the municipality and Dillon Consulting will be available to answer questions and receive feedback.
