What is Wayfinding?
More than just physical signage
Wayfinding is the comprehensive process of using information to find one’s way in the built and natural environment including signage and other navigation systems. Wayfinding includes identification, orientation, information and interpretation. An effective wayfinding strategy will ease and enhance the experience of navigation to and through a new (or familiar) environment.
What's Happening?
This initiative builds on recommendations from several key municipal strategies, including the Tourism Strategy (2021) and the Waterfront Access Strategy (2024), both of which highlight the importance of improved signage to enhance the visitor experience and support economic development.
This Wayfinding Strategy will serve as a comprehensive guide for the development and implementation of a coordinated wayfinding signage and navigation system across the Municipality. With a growing population and increasing visitor traffic, the need for a consistent and modern wayfinding system has become essential to improve how people locate key destinations within North Grenville.
This Strategy will also align with other foundational planning documents, such as the 2009 Signage Plan, Transportation Master Plan (2019), Parking Study (2023), and the Economic Development Strategy (2024).
